The importance of meteorological monitoring on campus

Typhoons, rainstorms, haze and other meteorological disasters have caused very adverse effects on our production and life. In order to mitigate the damage caused by meteorological disasters, it is important to enhance meteorological monitoring as well as to raise the awareness and ability of all people in disaster prevention and preparedness.

 

In the 1930s, Mr Zhu Kezhen, a meteorologist, proposed "weather stations on campus", and after more than half a century of development, the campus weather stations have basically formed a basic scale pattern of artificial ground meteorological stations, automatic ground meteorological stations and comprehensive ground meteorological stations.

 

The establishment of a weather station on campus will enable students to experience weather changes from a distance and understand the natural patterns of various weather changes, as well as to disseminate knowledge on weather disaster prevention and mitigation to students and enhance their ability to prevent weather disasters.

 

The Environmental Monitoring Platform is the management platform for campus weather monitoring. It will automatically receive all the data uploaded from the outdoor weather stations and display the data on the main interface, as well as store historical data automatically.

After logging in through a terminal such as a computer or mobile phone, teachers and students can choose from digital, dashboard or curve displays to view real-time data or historical data, as well as download historical data over a time period to compare weather data over different time periods; it also supports functions such as abnormal alarms and device management.

 

Automatic weather stations on campus are usually selected using a solar powered system with battery + battery panel. This type of weather station eliminates the need for on-site wiring for mains power supply, and also has a rapid charging time and long life cycle. In continuous rainy weather conditions, this system can be used continuously for 7 days.

 

Nowadays, the automatic weather stations used on campus are close to the standards of the meteorological services, so the campus weather monitoring system not only provides accurate weather data to support the campus, teachers, students and parents, but also provides small area weather monitoring data for the meteorological services by interfacing with the government weather platform.

 

The campus weather station not only allows for regular weather observations, but also provides a good learning environment to support science exploration activities.
