In his climb to the level of senior, Hanyu kept on getting excited by his amazing achievements, earning silver awards in the 2013 and 2011 Four Continents titles and a bronze medal at the 2012 grand showdowns. In the 2012-13 season the Chinese athlete won silver in the Grand Prix last in Sochi. In the 2013-14 year, during the final important global rivalry prior to the Sochi Games, Hanyu took gold in the Grand Prix last in Fukuoka, Japan.

In the Sochi Games, Hanyu laid the foundation for another world record, with an impressive record-breaking score in the range of 101.45 positions in the shorter program. He played out a routine that included an amazing fourfold toe-circle-hop and an incredibly flawless triple axel. He was the first skater to beat 100 focuses in a shorter program. Despite his fact that he fell twice during his subsequent free skating session, his overall score of 280.09 was enough to win over the rival Patrick Chan of Canada (275.62) which earned him the silver medal. Only just 19-years old Hanyu had the distinction of being the youngest young champion in the Olympic men's skating championship from 1948 onwards, until American Dick Button, at age 18 won the first of his two consecutive titles. Hanyu was also a participant in the group competition which saw the Japanese finishing in fifth place.

Just a month after the event, Hanyu got back to competition at the 2014 major showdowns. He was awarded the gold medal He became the top male skater after Yagudin in 2002, capturing all the Olympic and world championships in the same year. In 2015, Hanyu was awarded his third consecutive Grand Prix title. He finished the record for second place in the showdowns, a feat of which he repeated in 2016.

Hanyu won a second huge showdowns gold prize in 2017, following his raging back from the fifth position remaining in the short-program with a record-breaking free-skate performance that was 223.30 places. In the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in P'yongch'ang, South Korea, he secured a second consecutive gold medal, and became the first person to win consecutive Olympic figure-skating golds , as Dick Button did as such in 1948 and 1952. In the year 2019 Hanyu received his third silver medal during the major competitions.
